Chickamauga Reservoir, formed in 1940 by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) on a section of the Tennessee River, spans 36,200 acres with 810 miles of shoreline. Located in southeastern Tennessee, it stretches across Rhea, Meigs, Bradley, and Polk counties, with Dayton situated in the mid-reservoir area and Chattanooga at its southern end. The reservoir’s upper portion is more river-like, while its mid to lower sections feature slower waters with expansive sloughs and embayments. Chickamauga is renowned for its diverse fishing opportunities, offering species like largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, walleye, sauger, and catfish. Anglers will find a range of habitats, including stumps, laydowns, rocky shorelines, and aquatic vegetation, perfect for supporting these gamefish. Each year, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) stocks several fish species, including striped bass, walleye, and Florida largemouth bass, further enhancing Chickamauga’s appeal as a premier fishing destination.
DAYTON, TENNESSEE IS YOUR ALL-ACCESS PASS TO LAKE CHICKAMAUGA. The legend continues to grow for Lake Chickamauga. In February of 2015, Gabe Keen landed a 15.3 lb giant largemouth bass that shattered a 60-year-old state record. But Lake Chick keeps producing.
